NOTIONS Hook US H8 / 5.00 mm or size to obtain gauge. Gauge ruler or tape measure Yarn needle Scissors

GAUGE Start with working a 6″ x 6″ square and measure the middle section, not along the sides. The middle will have more consistent stitches. 16 sts and 8 rows = 4”/10 cm
Blocked: If you block your squares as you go they are easier to seam and your afghan will have better drape and feel when it’s complete

SIZE Single square finished measurement: 12.5” x 12.5”

Step 1

PATTERN KEY Ch(s): Chain(s) Sc: Single crochet Sp(s): Space(s) St(s): Stitch(es) Lp(s): Loop(s) Dc = double crochet

SPECIAL STITCHES & TECHNIQUES 2 dc-cl = 2 double crochet cluster: Yo, insert hook into st, yo, pull lp through st, yo, pull through 2 lps, yo, insert hook into same st, yo, pull lp through st, yo, pull through 2 lps, yo, pull through all 3 lps on hook. (Each stitch consists of two double crochets together.)

NOTES Rows: Work that is not joined at the completion of the instruction. Square is worked flat in rows. Obtaining a gauge will ensure you are using the yarn and hook that will work with your personal tension to get an accurately sized piece. The hook and yarn in patterns are a suggestion. Ch-1 at the beginning of a row does not count as a stitch.

Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, 2-dc cl in next ch, *sc in next 2 chs, 2-dc cl in next ch; repeat from * the last 2 chs, sc in each of the last 2 chs, ch 1 & turn. (34 sc, 16 2-dc cl)

Row 2: Sc in first 2 sts, *ch 2, skip 2-dc cluster, sc in next 2 sts; repeat from * to the end of row, ch 1 & turn. (34 sc, 16 ch-2 sps)

Row 3: Sc in first 2 sts, *2-dc cl in ch-2 sp, sc in next 2 sts; repeat from * to the end of row, ch 1 & turn. (34 sc, 16 2-dc cl)

Repeat Rows: 2 & 3 until square measures 12.5” or desired length. Bind off.

Use yarn needle to weave in ends. Trim excess yarn tail. Steam block to measurements.
